General information about Daktar 2% mouth gel

Daktar 2% oral gel is an over-the-counter medicine that is used to treat fungal diseases of the mucous membrane.The active ingredient miconazole has an antifungal effect and effectively fights yeast fungi such as Candida, which are responsible for oral thrush.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The main active ingredient in Daktar 2% oral gel is miconazole, which is contained in a concentration of 20 mg per gram of gel.The gel also contains the following excipients: glycerol, purified water, pre-gelatinized potato starch, ethanol 96%, polysorbate 20, saccharin sodium, cocoa flavor and orange flavor.

Areas of application

Daktar 2% oral gel is used to treat fungal infections in the oral cavity known as oral thrush.It is suitable for infants from 4 months, children and adults.

Dosage and application

The recommended dose for infants from 4 months and children up to 2 years is 1/4 measuring spoon of gel (equivalent to 1.25 ml) four times daily.For children aged 2 and over and adults, the dose is 1/2 measuring spoon of gel (equivalent to 2.5 ml) four times daily.The gel should be used after meals throughout the day.

Apply the oral gel to the oral mucosa with a clean finger and distribute it evenly.For infants and small children, the gel should be applied in small portions to the front of the mouth to avoid swallowing.The gel should be kept in the mouth for as long as possible and then swallowed.

Treatment should be continued for at least a week after the symptoms disappear.If symptoms do not improve after 5 days, you should see a doctor.

Contraindications

Daktar 2% oral gel must not be used if you or the child being treated are allergic to miconazole, related antifungal medications or any of the other ingredients of the medication.The gel should also not be used in cases of liver dysfunction or in infants under 4 months of age and children with incompletely developed swallowing reflexes.

Caution is advised when taking other medicines that are broken down via certain metabolic pathways, such as certain heart rhythm medications, allergy medications, medications for psychiatric disorders, malaria, migraines, cholesterol-lowering medications and sleeping pills or sedatives.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Daktar 2% oral gel can have side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include dry mouth, nausea, unpleasant feeling in the mouth, vomiting, regurgitation of food, different taste of the product and taste disorders.

Very rarely, hypersensitivity reactions such as itching, swelling and redness of the skin, shortness of breath, drop in blood pressure, diarrhea, inflammation of the liver, scalding-like skin and mucous membrane symptoms, hives, rash and severe general health problems can occur.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.Daktar 2% oral gel should not be used in the first three months of pregnancy.From the 4th month of pregnancy it should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor.

During breastfeeding, the gel should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor, as it is not known whether the active ingredient miconazole passes into breast milk.

Storage

Keep Daktar 2% oral gel out of the reach of children and do not store it above 30 °C.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton and tube.

Additional notes

Daktar 2% mouth gel contains 23.47 mg alcohol (ethanol) in 2.5 ml (1/2 measuring spoon), which corresponds to 0.757% by weight.The amount in 2.5ml is equivalent to less than 1ml of beer or 1ml of wine and has no noticeable effects.The medicine contains less than 1 mmol (23 mg) of sodium per 2.5 ml, i.e. it is almost "sodium-free".
