Calcivit D chewable tablets are a vitamin and mineral preparation that is used to treat and prevent combined vitamin D and calcium deficiencies in older patients.It also serves as an adjunct to specific osteoporosis treatment in patients with established or high risk of such deficiencies.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredients in Calcivit D chewable tablets are calcium carbonate and colecalciferol.One chewable tablet contains 1500 mg calcium carbonate, equivalent to 600 mg calcium, and 4 mg colecalciferol dry concentrate, equivalent to 400 IU vitamin D3.The other ingredients include aluminum sodium silicate, butylated hydroxytoluene, gelatin, magnesium stearate, pregelatinized starch, mannitol, colloidal silicon dioxide, modified starch, sucrose, medium chain triglycerides, xylitol and flavorings.

Contraindications

Calcivit D chewable tablets must not be taken if you are known to be hypersensitive to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients, if you have diseases or conditions that lead to increased calcium content in the blood or urine, if you have kidney stones, tissue calcification of the kidneys, too high vitamin D levels, as well as in certain tumors and lung diseases such as sarcoidosis.The product is not intended for children and adolescents.

Dosage and application

Adults take 1 chewable tablet 1 to 2 times daily.The chewable tablets should be chewed and swallowed or sucked with a little liquid.The duration of use is determined by the doctor.During long-term treatment, blood calcium levels and kidney function should be monitored regularly.

Side effects

Possible side effects include hypersensitivity reactions, increased urinary calcium excretion, increased calcium blood levels, constipation, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, rash, hives and itching.If side effects occur, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted.

Interactions

Taking it at the same time as certain medicines such as cardiac glycosides, diuretics, antibiotics, bisphosphonates and others can influence the effect of Calcivit D.There should be an interval of at least 2 hours between taking such preparations and Calcivit D.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy, the daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU vitamin D3.Overdoses must be avoided.Calcivit D can be taken during breastfeeding as calcium and vitamin D pass into breast milk.

Storage

The medicine should be kept out of the reach of children and not stored above 25°C.It must not be used after the expiry date stated on the package.

Notes

In the event of an overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, increased thirst, increased urine output, dehydration and constipation may occur.If an overdose is suspected, a doctor should be consulted immediately.Caution is advised if you are intolerance to sucrose.
