Instructions for use for BIOFANAL Suspension gel tube, 25 g
Area of application
Biofanal suspension gel is a specifically anti-yeast agent for the treatment of yeast infections of the oral cavity, also known as oral thrush. It is used to treat nystatin-sensitive yeast infections in the oral cavity. No prescription is required for this product.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
The active ingredient in Biofanal suspension gel is nystatin with a concentration of 100,000 IU per gram. The other ingredients include methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E216), glycerol 85%, sucrose, hyetellose, purified water and flavorings. The gel also contains parabens (E216 and E218) and sucrose (sugar).
Contraindications
Biofanal suspension gel must not be used if you are allergic to nystatin, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate or any of the other ingredients of the medicine. If you have an intolerance to certain sugars, you should only use the gel after consulting your doctor, as it can be harmful to your teeth.
Dosage
Always use Biofanal suspension gel exactly as described or after consulting your doctor or pharmacist. The usual dose is 1 gram of gel (1 scoop) 3 to 6 times a day, in severe cases every 2 hours. For infants, it makes sense to put ½ to 1 measuring spoon into the oral cavity before and after a meal.Treatment should be continued for at least 2 days after the symptoms have subsided, but not longer than 28 days.
Intake
The gel is left in the mouth for a few minutes, gently moved back and forth, and then swallowed. In addition, the affected areas can be smeared with a cotton swab onto which the gel has previously been applied.Due to its adhesive properties, the gel is well suited for treatment in the oral cavity.
Patient information
Due to the high osmolarity of nystatin, its use in very underweight and immature premature infants is not recommended. No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive and use machines.
Pregnancy
When given orally in normal doses, nystatin is not absorbed, does not cross the placental barrier and is not expected to be present in breast milk. Therefore, Biofanal suspension gel can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Notes
For information about risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Other
If the treatment is not successful, the doctor should carry out an examination to confirm a fungal infection or to check the treatment. When treating fungal infections, all fungal foci on the skin and mucous membranes must be treated to avoid relapses.
