Nystatin acis® suspension

Nystatin acis® Suspension is a yeast-specific antimycotic that is used for the local treatment of oral thrush and to cleanse the intestines in cases of yeast infestation.It is particularly suitable for newborns, small children and patients with swallowing difficulties.No prescription is required for this product.

Area of application

The medicine is used for nystatin-sensitive yeast infections of the oral cavity (oral thrush) and to cleanse the intestines in the event of yeast infestation.Favoring factors for the development of oral thrush include dental prostheses, chronic illnesses such as diabetes mellitus, HIV or therapy with broad-spectrum antibiotics or immunosuppressive medications.Oral thrush can also be a common local side effect when using inhaled glucocorticoids for respiratory diseases.Those affected should eat something small or rinse their mouth briefly after using the sprays to reduce the risk.

Mode of action

Nystatin acis® Suspension has a fungicidal or fungistatic effect against Candida albicans infections (thrush) and related yeast species.Symptoms of oral thrush are a white coating on a very reddened oral mucosa with abnormal sensations and occasional pain.Early treatment is important to prevent the fungus from spreading to the lungs and intestines.

Ingredients of Nystatin acis® Suspension: 1 ml suspension contains 100,000 IU nystatin.Other ingredients are sucrose, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E 218), propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E 216), disodium hydrogen phosphate, glycerol, carmellose sodium, ethanol 96%, cinnamaldehyde, peppermint oil, cherry flavor (contains benzyl alcohol) and purified water.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to the active ingredient or one of the excipients mentioned, Nystatin acis® Suspension should not be used.

Dosage

Recommended use of Nystatin acis® Suspension: Shake the bottle vigorously before use and use the pipette to draw up the suspension to the desired marking line (0.5 or 1 ml).Newborns (0-4 weeks) and small children receive 0.5-1 ml of suspension 4 times daily.Children from 2 years of age and adults receive 0.5-1.5 ml of suspension dripped into the mouth after meals 4 times a day, depending on the severity of the disease.

Intake

To be taken orally and for use in the oral cavity.Shake the bottle vigorously before use and use the pipette to draw up the suspension to the desired marking line (0.5 or 1 ml).In the case of oral thrush, drip the medicine into the mouth with the pipette after meals and spread it in the mouth for at least 1 minute so that the entire oral cavity is well wetted.To cleanse the intestines, the suspension is swallowed in the mouth after use.If there is no oral thrush, the suspension can be swallowed straight away or, in seriously ill patients with difficulty swallowing, administered via a stomach tube.In these cases the suspension can also be given before meals.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the medicine.Oral nystatin preparations are not suitable for the treatment of systemic fungal infections.Due to the high osmolarity of nystatin, its use in very underweight and immature premature infants is not recommended.The suspension has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Keep this medicine out of the reach and reach of children.Do not store above 25ºC.The shelf life after opening the container is 6 months.
