Nystatin acis® Suspension is a medicine that is used for the local treatment of oral thrush and to cleanse the intestines in the event of yeast infestation.It is particularly suitable for newborns, small children and patients with swallowing difficulties.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

Nystatin acis® Suspension is used for yeast infections of the oral cavity, also known as oral thrush, and to cleanse the intestines in the event of yeast infestation.Oral thrush can be caused by various factors, such as dentures, chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus or HIV, as well as by taking broad-spectrum antibiotics or immunosuppressive medications.The use of inhaled glucocorticoids for respiratory diseases can also cause oral thrush as a local side effect.

Mode of action

Nystatin acis® Suspension has a specific fungicidal or fungistatic effect against Candida albicans infections and related yeast species.This means that it either kills the fungi or inhibits their growth and reproduction.Symptoms of oral thrush are a white coating on a very red mucous membrane of the mouth, accompanied by discomfort and occasional pain.Timely treatment is important to prevent the fungus from spreading to the lungs and intestines.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The suspension contains nystatin as the active ingredient in a concentration of 100,000 IU per milliliter.In addition, it contains the following other ingredients: sucrose, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E 218), propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E 216), disodium hydrogen phosphate, glycerol, carmellose sodium, ethanol 96%, cinnamaldehyde, peppermint oil, cherry flavor (contains benzyl alcohol) and purified water.

Contraindications

Nystatin acis® Suspension should not be used if there is hypersensitivity to the active ingredient Nystatin or any of the other ingredients.

Dosage

The bottle should be shaken vigorously before use.Using the included pipette, the suspension can be drawn up to the desired marking line (0.5 or 1 ml).Newborns (0-4 weeks) and small children receive 0.5-1 ml of suspension four times daily.Children from two years of age and adults receive 0.5-1.5 ml of suspension four times a day after meals, depending on the severity of the disease.

Application

In the case of oral thrush, the suspension is dripped into the mouth using a pipette after meals and distributed in the mouth for at least a minute in order to achieve good wetting of the entire oral cavity.To cleanse the intestines, the suspension is swallowed in the mouth after use.If there is no oral thrush, the suspension can be swallowed straight away or administered via a stomach tube in seriously ill patients with swallowing difficulties.In these cases the suspension can also be given before meals.

Notes

Keep this medicine out of the reach and reach of children and do not store it above 25°C.The shelf life after opening the container is six months.Please do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
