Vertigo-Vomex® SR sustained-release capsules are an anti-dizziness agent that belongs to the group of H1 antihistamines.It is used for the symptomatic treatment of elderly patients with dizziness of various origins.No prescription is required for this product.

Vertigo-Vomex® SR works quickly and safely against dizziness by dampening the corresponding center in the brain without affecting the neighboring centers for breathing or circulation.The active ingredient dimenhydrinate has a direct effect on the vestibular system, selectively inhibits the transmission of stimuli from the inner ear to the brain stem, influences the dizziness center in the brain stem and relieves nausea and vomiting in acute attacks of dizziness.

Vertigo-Vomex® SR sustained-release capsules take effect after around 15-30 minutes when administered orally.Due to the delayed release of the active ingredient, the effect lasts for approx. 3-6 hours and has a lower sedating effect than dosage forms with non-delayed release of the active ingredient.The active ingredient dimenhydrinate impresses with its good tolerability.

Vertigo-Vomex® SR sustained-release capsules contain the active ingredient dimenhydrinate.One prolonged-release hard capsule contains 120 mg dimenhydrinate.The other ingredients are talc, sucrose, corn starch, shellac, povidone K 30, titanium dioxide, gelatin, quinoline yellow, indigo carmine and erythrosine.

Area of application

Vertigo-Vomex® SR sustained-release capsules are used for the symptomatic treatment of elderly patients with dizziness of various origins.If you don't feel better or feel worse after 14 days, contact your doctor.

Dosage

The recommended dose is one sustained-release hard capsule in the morning and, if necessary, another hard capsule in the late afternoon (corresponding to 120 mg or 240 mg dimenhydrinate per day).Up to three sustained-release hard capsules (corresponding to 360 mg dimenhydrinate per day) can be taken within 24 hours - at intervals of 8 hours if possible.

Vertigo-Vomex® SR sustained-release capsules should be taken whole and with plenty of liquid.Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, they are only intended for short-term use.If symptoms persist, you should consult a doctor.After 2 weeks of treatment at the latest, your doctor should check whether treatment with Vertigo-Vomex® SR prolonged-release capsules is still necessary.

Intake

The prolonged-release capsules should be taken whole and with plenty of liquid.There should be an interval of at least 8 hours between two doses.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the above ingredients, this product should not be used.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the product if you have Parkinson's disease, impaired liver function and/or severely impaired kidney function, potassium or magnesium deficiency, slow heartbeat, certain heart diseases, simultaneous use of drugs that prolong the QT-interval in the EKG or lead to hypokalemia, chronic breathing problems and asthma, as well as if you have symptoms that could be aggravated by anticholinergic therapy.

In these cases, the sustained-release capsules may only be taken after consulting a doctor.If treatment is prolonged, the development of drug dependence cannot be ruled out.For this reason, the medicine should only be used for a short time if possible.After long-term daily use, sudden stopping of treatment may cause temporary sleep disorders.Therefore, in these cases, treatment should be stopped by gradually reducing the dose.

Overdoses of dimenhydrinate, the active ingredient in this medicine, can be life-threatening, especially in children, and must be avoided.Therefore, the extended-release capsules must not be used in children under 14 years of age or under 56 kg body weight.

Drowsiness, memory problems and reduced ability to concentrate can have an adverse effect on the ability to drive or work with machines.This is particularly true after insufficient sleep, when starting treatment and changing medications, and in combination with alcohol.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

Dimenhydrinate, the active ingredient in the preparation, can trigger premature labor. The safety of use during pregnancy has not been proven.A risk cannot be excluded for dimenhydrinate based on clinical data.You may only take the preparation after consulting your doctor and only if he or she considers it to be absolutely necessary.

Dimenhydrinate, the active ingredient of the drug, passes into breast milk.The safety of use during breastfeeding has not been proven.Since undesirable effects, such as increased restlessness, on the breastfed child cannot be ruled out, you should either not use the prolonged-release capsules while breastfeeding or stop breastfeeding during the period of use.

Notes

Vertigo-Vomex® SR extended-release capsules must not be used in children under 14 years of age.The product contains sucrose (sugar) and should be kept out of the reach of children.
