What is nicorette® Mint Spray?

Each spray contains 1 mg of therapeutic nicotine, which may reduce withdrawal symptoms such as increased irritability or increased appetite.The cool mint taste also refreshes the mouth and throat.The nicotine enters the bloodstream through the oral mucosa and increases nicotine levels, thereby reducing the craving for a cigarette.

Application of nicorette® Mint Spray

The nicorette® Mint Spray is used in six simple steps.Children and adolescents under 18 years of age must not use the medicine.

1. Unlocking the child safety lock: Push the button down with your thumb, press it slightly inwards and move it together with the spray head back up.

2. Hold the spray with the opening of the spray head close to your open mouth.

3. Spray into the side cheek pocket or oral cavity without inhaling, swallowing, eating or drinking.Avoid wetting your lips if possible.

4. Press the spray head firmly.

5. Spray again if necessary if the desire to smoke is not reduced within a few minutes.

6. Reactivate the child lock after use.

Maximum dose: a maximum of 2 sprays in a row, a maximum of 4 sprays per hour, maximum daily dose: 64 sprays.

Dosage when quitting smoking immediately using the end point method:

If you want to stop smoking immediately and completely, the nicorette® spray can be used over 12 weeks to reduce the desire to smoke.

Week 1 to 6: If there is an acute desire to smoke, 1 to 2 sprays are used, usually every 30 to 60 minutes.

Weeks 7 to 9: The number of daily sprays is reduced to half by the end of the ninth week.

Week 10 to 12: The number of daily sprays is reduced to a maximum of 4.If fewer than 4 applications per day are required, the spray should be discontinued completely.

Dosage for the reduction method:

The nicorette® spray also supports gradual quitting, with the aim of completely quitting smoking.

Weeks 1 to 12: The number of cigarettes smoked is reduced by replacing individual cigarettes with 1 to 2 puffs of the spray.Smoking should be stopped completely no later than 12 weeks after starting therapy.

Follow-up therapy for a maximum of 3 additional months: The daily number of applications of the spray should be gradually reduced.If a maximum of 4 sprays are required per day, it should be discontinued completely, but at the latest after 3 months.

With supporting tracking app

The nicorette® spray contains an NFC-chip and can be easily connected to the motivating “nicorette® non-smoker” tracking app.This means you can set your own goals, track sprays and track your personal progress.

The nicorette® spray can help quickly relieve the body's withdrawal symptoms.After use, the spray can simply be held up to your smartphone.The sprays are recorded by the app and the progress is determined.The app also contains useful tips for quitting smoking.

1. Simply download the “nicorette® non-smoker” tracking app from the App Store or Google Play Store.

2. Connect the tracking app to the nicorette® spray.

To do this, hold the spray against the smartphone (on the front side of iPhones, on the back of Android devices).

Unlock the device and open the tracking app.

Set up tracking: Select “Yes” as soon as a window opens asking whether the application should be tracked. If a spray was accidentally tracked, it can be removed again with “Cancel”.One spray is tracked with each connection.For manual tracking, simply press the “+” button in the app; it is located in the navigation line at the bottom of the screen.

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.

Ingredients

Active ingredient per 0.07 ml spray (= 1 spray): 1 mg nicotine.

The other ingredients are: propylene glycol (E1520), ethanol, trometamol, poloxamer 407, glycerol (E422), sodium bicarbonate, levomenthol, mint aroma, freshness aroma, sucralose, acesulfame potassium, butylhydroxytoluene (E321), hydrochloric acid 10% (for pH adjustment) and purified water.

Area of application

The nicorette® Mint Spray is used to help you give up smoking, if you want to stop smoking immediately or to help you reduce your cigarette consumption (smoke reduction) in order to achieve a complete smoking cessation.This is a type of treatment called nicotine replacement therapy.

Mode of action

With each spray, therapeutic nicotine enters the bloodstream via the oral mucosa and causes the nicotine level to rise.This reduces the acute desire for a cigarette.

Contraindications

Nicorette® Mint Spray must not be used if you are allergic to nicotine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, if you are under 18 years old or if you have never smoked.

Dosage

Dosage of nicorette® Mint Spray: Do not use more than 2 sprays in a row or 4 sprays per hour for 16 hours.Over a period of 24 hours, the maximum dose is 64 sprays within 16 hours.Normally you should use nicorette® Mint Spray when quitting smoking with immediate smoking cessation for 3 months.When reducing smoking followed by quitting smoking, cigarettes can also be reduced first.nicorette® Spray should not be used for longer than 6 months.

Intake

a.Hold the spray can as close to your open mouth as possible.

b.To release a spray into your mouth, press the top of the dispenser.You should avoid wetting your lips or inhaling while spraying to avoid spray going down your throat.For best results, do not swallow for a few seconds after spraying.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor before using this medicine if you have any of the following conditions.You may be able to use nicorette® Mint Spray, but you must first consult your doctor if you have recently had a heart attack or stroke (within the last 3 months), have chest pain (unstable angina) or angina at rest, have a heart disease that affects the speed of your heartbeat or heart rhythm, have high blood pressure that is not adequately controlled by medicines, have ever had an allergic reaction with swelling of the lips, face and throat(angioedema) or itchy rash (urticaria), have severe or moderate liver disease, have severe kidney disease, have diabetes, have an overactive thyroid, have a tumor of the adrenal glands (pheochromocytoma), have a stomach or duodenal ulcer, or have inflammation of the esophagus (esophagitis).

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines, even if they are non-prescription medicines.This is especially important if you are taking medicines that contain any of the following active ingredients: theophylline to treat asthma, tacrine to treat Alzheimer's disease, clozapine to treat schizophrenia, or ropinirole to treat Parkinson's disease.

You must not eat or drink while using the spray.

The nicorette® Mint Spray must not be used by non-smokers.

Do not give this medicine to children or adolescents.

Pregnancy

It is very important to stop smoking during pregnancy as smoking can lead to reduced growth of your baby and also lead to premature birth or stillbirth.It is best if you can quit smoking without using medicines that contain nicotine.If you are unable to do this, you should only use nicorette® Mint Spray after consulting with the healthcare professional accompanying your pregnancy, with your family doctor, or with a doctor in a center that specializes in helping people give up smoking.

The use of nicorette® Mint Spray should be avoided while breastfeeding, as nicotine passes into breast milk and can affect your child.If your doctor has recommended the use of nicorette® Mint Spray, you should use the spray immediately after breastfeeding and not in the last 2 hours before breastfeeding.

Smoking increases the risk of infertility in women and men.It is not known what effects nicotine has on fertility.
