Areas of application

Olynth 0.05% runny nose dosing spray is used in children between 2 and 6 years of age to reduce the swelling of the nasal mucosa in the event of a runny nose, episodic runny nose (rhinitis vasomotorica) and allergic runny nose (rhinitis allergica).It also facilitates the drainage of secretions in cases of inflammation of the paranasal sinuses and otitis media (catarrh of the tubal middle ear) in connection with a cold.

Mode of action

The active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride has vasoconstricting properties.It contracts the dilated veins in the mucous membrane of the nose and eyeball, which reduces excessive blood flow and causes the mucous membrane to swell.This allows patients to breathe more freely through their nose and reduces eye irritation.

Ingredients

1 ml Olynth 0.05% cold dosage spray contains 0.5 mg xylometazoline hydrochloride as the active ingredient.The other ingredients are benzalkonium chloride solution, sodium edetate (Ph. Eur.), sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium monohydrogen phosphate dihydrate (Ph. Eur.), Sorbitol solution 70% (non-crystallizing) (Ph. Eur.) and purified water.

Application and dosage

Olynth 0.05% cold dosage spray is intended for nasal use.Before the first application, pumping should be carried out several times until an even spray mist emerges.The dosing spray bottle should be held as vertically as possible and pumped once per nostril while inhaling gently through the nose.For hygienic reasons, the spray head should be wiped after each use and the protective cap put back on.

The recommended dose for children between 2 and 6 years of age is 1 spray into each nostril up to 3 times daily.It should not be used for longer than 7 days without medical advice.Re-application should only be considered after a break of several days.The doctor should always be consulted about the duration of use in children.

Contraindications

Side effects
