Calcilac® chewable tablets are a medicine that contains calcium carbonate and colecalciferol (vitamin D3) as active ingredients.These chewable tablets are used to prevent and treat vitamin D and calcium deficiencies in older people.They can also serve as a supplement to support specific osteoporosis therapy, especially in patients who are at risk of vitamin D and calcium deficiency.No prescription is required for this product.

In addition to the active ingredients, the chewable tablets also contain various other ingredients, including sorbitol, aspartame and sucrose.It is important to note that the medicine should not be used if there is hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients or if there is too high a calcium level in the blood or urine.The product should also not be taken if you have calcium-containing kidney stones, impaired kidney function or too high a vitamin D content in the blood.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each Calcilac® chewable tablet contains 500 mg calcium (as calcium carbonate) and 10 micrograms colecalciferol (vitamin D3, equivalent to 400 IU, as colecalciferol dry concentrate).The other ingredients include sorbitol (Ph.Eur.) (E 420), povidone, croscarmellose sodium, dextrose-maltose saccharide mixture (92:3.5:4.5), lemon flavor (maltodextrin, flavorings, all-rac-α-tocopherol [E 307]), magnesium stearate (Ph.Eur.) [pflanzlich], starch[hydrogen-2-(oct-1-en-1-yl)butandioat]-Sodium salt, aspartame (E 951), sucrose, sodium ascorbate, medium chain triglycerides, colloidal silicon dioxide and all-rac-α-tocopherol (E 307).

Area of application

Calcilac® chewable tablets are used to prevent and treat calcium and vitamin D deficiencies in older people.They can also serve as a supplement to support specific osteoporosis therapy, especially in patients who are at risk of vitamin D and calcium deficiency.

Dosage and intake

The usual dose of Calcilac® chewable tablets is one tablet twice daily.The tablets can be chewed or sucked.It should preferably be taken with a meal.During long-term treatment, it is important to have the calcium content of the blood checked regularly.Depending on the results, the doctor may adjust the dose or stop treatment.

Patient information

Before taking Calcilac® chewable tablets, you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you require long-term treatment, have impaired kidney function or have a strong tendency to form kidney stones.Consultation with a doctor is also necessary if you have sarcoidosis, immobilization with osteoporosis or are taking other vitamin D or calcium preparations.Children and adolescents should not use the medicine.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking Calcilac® chewable tablets.During pregnancy, the daily intake of 1,500 mg calcium and 600 IU vitamin D should not be exceeded.For breastfeeding mothers, additional doses of vitamin D for the child should be considered, as the active ingredients can pass into breast milk.

Notes

Calcilac® chewable tablets contain sorbitol, aspartame, sodium compounds and sucrose.The medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to calcium, vitamin D or any of the other ingredients, have too high a calcium level in your blood or urine, have severe kidney dysfunction or kidney stones, or if the vitamin D level in your blood is too high.The medicine is not intended for use in children and adolescents.
