The nicorette® chewing gum freshmint supports you on your way to being smoke-free.Actively chewing gum releases nicotine, which enters the bloodstream through the oral mucosa and increases nicotine levels.This reduces the desire to smoke and typical withdrawal symptoms such as inner restlessness or increased appetite.In addition, active chewing can distract from the desire to smoke.The chewing gums are sugar-free and have a refreshing mint flavor.They are also available in freshfruit and whitemint flavors.

No prescription is required for this product.The chewing gum is suitable for people who smoke up to 20 cigarettes per day.If you smoke more than 20 cigarettes per day, we recommend using higher-dose nicorette® chewing gum with 4 mg nicotine.

The nicorette® chewing gum 2 mg freshmint is used to treat tobacco addiction by alleviating withdrawal symptoms and supporting smoking cessation.Also to reduce cigarette consumption (smoke reduction) in order to quit smoking.Smokers who are currently unable to completely quit smoking immediately may initially use chewing gum to reduce their cigarette consumption.The medicine is intended for smokers who smoked up to 20 cigarettes per day before treatment.Additional advice and supportive measures can increase the success rate.

Mode of action

The therapeutic nicotine is absorbed through the oral mucosa.Nicotine substitution alleviates the desire to smoke and withdrawal symptoms.

The nicorette® chewing gum 2 mg freshmint contains 10 mg nicotine polacrilin (1:4), 2 mg nicotine, 8 mg polacrilin, acesulfame potassium, arabic gum, carnauba wax, chewing gum base, butylated hydroxytoluene, levomenthol, light magnesium oxide, sodium carbonate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, peppermint oil, titanium dioxide and 608 mg xylitol.

Contraindications

Nicorette chewing gum 2 mg freshmint must not be used if you are allergic to nicotine, levomenthol, peppermint oil, butylhydroxytoluene (E 321) or one of the other ingredients of this medicine mentioned, if you are a non-smoker or if you are an occasional smoker and smoke one cigarette per day or less often.

Dosage

The dosage recommendation for the nicorette® chewing gum 2 mg freshmint stipulates that the chewing gum should be used for a total of at least 3 months.You should chew a total of 1 piece per hour, a maximum of 16 pieces per day, with 8 to 12 pieces being a guideline.4 to 6 weeks after starting treatment, the number of chewing gum per day should be gradually reduced by chewing the gum at intervals greater than 1 hour.The first attempt to stop chewing gum should be made when the average daily consumption over the last week has been 1 - 2 pieces.

Intake

1 Piece of nicorette® chewing gum 2 mg freshmint is chewed for around 30 minutes with breaks to release the nicotine from the chewing mass.It is important to chew the gum slowly.You should avoid chewing the gum quickly and/or intensively so that the nicotine is not released from the gum too quickly.To do this, the chewing gum should be chewed until the taste noticeably intensifies.Then it is important to push the gum into the cheek pocket until the taste subsides.You can then start chewing again.To increase the chances of success, it is important to avoid underdosing.A sufficient amount of nicorette® chewing gum should therefore be chewed every day.

Patient information

Please speak to your doctor in advance if you suffer from any of the following illnesses. You may be able to use this medicine, but you must first consult your doctor if you have recently had a heart attack or stroke (within the last 3 months), if you have chest pain (unstable angina) or angina at rest, if you have a heart disease that affects the speed of your heartbeat or heart rhythm, if you have high blood pressure that is not adequately controlled by medicines, if you have severe or moderate liver disease, if you have severeIf you have kidney disease, if you have diabetes, if your thyroid is overactive, if you have a tumor of the adrenal glands (pheochromocytoma), if you have a stomach or duodenal ulcer or if you suffer from inflammation of the esophagus (esophagitis).Your doctor will carefully weigh the risks of nicotine replacement therapy against those of continuing to smoke.

High levels of nicotine in the blood with corresponding side effects can occur if you smoke soon after chewing gum.Please consider in which situations the risk of mindlessly reaching for a cigarette is particularly high.An existing dependence on nicotine caused by tobacco may continue even with the use of nicotine replacement products;However, using nicotine alone is less harmful than smoking tobacco.Denture wearers may have difficulty chewing due to the adhesive nature of the medication;In some cases it is therefore not possible for them to use this preparation.In these cases, you may be able to use other dosage forms.Dental seals or inlays that are not properly secured can become looser when chewing gum.

Doses of nicotine tolerated by adult and adolescent smokers can cause severe symptoms of intoxication in young children, which can be fatal.Therefore, the medicine must be kept out of the reach of children at all times.Nicotine chewing gum must not be used in children under 12 years of age.Only use nicotine chewing gum in young people (from 12 years of age and under 18 years of age) with a doctor's recommendation, as experience with the use of nicotine chewing gum in people under 18 years of age is limited.

The medicine has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.It is very important to stop smoking during pregnancy as smoking can lead to reduced growth of your baby and also lead to premature birth or stillbirth.It is best if you can quit smoking during pregnancy without using nicotine-containing medicines.If you are unable to do this, you should only use the medicine after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.

Use should be avoided while breastfeeding as nicotine passes into breast milk and may affect your child.If your doctor has recommended its use, you should use the gum immediately after breastfeeding and not in the last two hours before breastfeeding.Smoking can have adverse effects on female and male fertility (fertility).It is not known what specific contribution nicotine has to these effects.However, women who want to have children should, if possible, neither smoke nor take nicotine replacement therapy.
